YOU CAN HELP PREVENT CRIME
Many Crimes Are “Crimes of Opportunity.”
Don’t Give Criminals a Chance to Act.
Follow These Tips:
PREVENT BIKE THEFT
- Always lock your bike to a secure post or fence. Remove the seat if possible when leaving it for an extended period.
- Use a heavy-duty lock. Cable locks are easy for a thief to cut.
- Take a picture of your bike(s) for future reference in case of theft.
- Record the bike serial number & keep it in a safe place.
- When parked & locked, remove items from luggage racks or bags.
BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS. STAY ALERT.
- Who is around you? Are they watching you?
- Are you able to tell emergency personnel where you are?
- When shopping, keep your valuables close at hand. (purses, gym bags, packages, etc.)
- do not display a lot of cash when paying.
- Always lock your car when not occupied. Never leave your car with the engine running.
- Do not leave valuables in your car visible from the outside. Lock items in the trunk or under the seat before you reach your destination.
- When home, keep your garage door closed, especially overnight. Don’t leave keys in the car.
PREVENT PURSE SNATCHING
When shopping, always carry your purse closed, never open. Carry it in front of you, not over your shoulder. Carry your house keys and vehicle key/fob in a separate location, such as your coat or jacket pocket
Never leave your purse unattended in a shopping cart or on a counter, even for a moment.
Beware of strangers sparking up a conversation. This could be a method to distract you from someone who will grab your purse or wallet.
When transferring your purchases to your car, put your purse in the car first and securely out of reach of windows or another door.
