March - April 2006 Various Diamond Store Thefts and Motor Vehicle Theft
On 03/10/06 at approximately 1227 hours, a suspect entered the Luisa Graff Jewelry Store located at 4663 Centennial Blvd. The suspect looked at three different wedding rings stating that he and his wife were getting married. He left a short time later stating that he would be back with his wife. A few minutes later, the suspect returned and asked to see the rings again. The suspect began trying on the rings and then suddenly fled the store taking the three rings with him.
The suspect is described as:
Hispanic male, 5'7", 150 lbs., brown hair, brown eyed with a medium build. The suspect was wearing a light blue t-shirt, light blue jeans and a light blue and white baseball cap with tags on the front.
The suspect was driving a green Jeep Cherokee with a tan stripe. The plates did not come back to the vehicle and the vehicle was later determined to be stolen and was recovered after it was involved in a single vehicle hit and run traffic accident. The value of these rings is $7,048.
The case is documented under case report 06-8928. The surveillance video recovered in this case does not show a clear facial shot of the suspect; however, it does show the suspect wearing a baseball cap that is similar to the baseball cap that the suspect wore in the Dillard's case. If anyone has information regarding this case, please contact Detective Pamela S. Konz, 9601 (444-7233).
On 03/23/06 at approximately 1630 hours, a suspect entered All That Glitters Jewelry Store located at 2518 West Colorado Avenue. The suspect stated he was looking for wedding sets. He also said he was waiting for his sister-in-law to come into the store and assist him. After about 2-3 minutes, the suspect left the store.
The suspect returned to the store after a few minutes and was alone. He was showed a few wedding sets. When the clerk held a loose diamond next to a cubic zirconia, the suspect took both items and fled the store.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 6'0" tall, average build and between 23 and 24 years olf. He was wearing blue clothing, athletic shoes and a blue baseball cap with a round decal on the bill. The value of these rings is $11,045.
When the suspect fled the scene, he was observed driving a brown Jeep Wagoneer with wood paneling down the side. This vehicle was later confirmed as stolen and was recovered on 04/07/06 at an address off of Rebecca Lane.
On 04/07/06 at approximately 1555 hours, a male suspect entered Galaxy Diamonds located at 4105 Centennial Blvd. The suspect inquired about wedding sets stating that he and his wife were getting married. The clerk never took any jewelry out of the display cases and they only discussed 1-2 carat diamonds. The clerk informed the suspect that the diamonds in the cases were cubic zirconia and that if he wanted a real diamond, it would have to be ordered.
Prior to this incident, staff at All That Glitters had contacted the clerk at Galaxy Diamonds and made her aware that their store had a theft taken place and provided them with a suspect description. The clerk at Galaxy Diamonds became suspicious because the male suspect's description matched that of which she had been given.
She described the suspect as:
Hispanic male, 20's, 5'11" tall, 180 lbs., brown hair with a medium build. He was wearing a white polo short sleeve shirt with a white baseball cap that he kept fidgeting with.
When the suspect left, the clerk looked out the window and observed him get into white, older model car, and observed a partial license plate of 326C. She said the suspect parked at the back of the store which was odd since there was plenty of parking in the front of the store.
On the same day (04/07/06) at approximately 1800 hours, an officer observed a white, 4-door sedan traveling at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of the lanes of traffic. When the officer ran the license plate, he discovered that the license plate was stolen. He attempted to stop the vehicle; however, the suspect eluded the officer and the pursuit was terminated. The suspect driver was described as:
Hispanic male, 20's, black hair with a medium build. He was wearing a white t-shirt, white baseball cap and white gloves.
This vehicle was later recovered on 04/10/06 at 2577 North Chelton Road and was a confirmed stolen vehicle.
Based on the investigation into these and similar cases, it is determined that the Hispanic male suspect in all of these cases is the same person. If anyone has any information in identifying the attached surveillance photographs or has information about the other crimes, please contact CSPD Detective Pamela S. Konz at 719-444-7233.
